The Wednesday Morning Group (WMG) is a weekly meeting of professional women, men and parents who gather in a spirit of mutual support, camaraderie, and intellectual curiosity to hear and interact with stimulating guest speakers and each other.
Who We Are
The Wednesday Morning Group is
a unique lecture series meeting weekly during the
Montgomery County school year. Originally founded
nearly 50 years ago by members of the Cedar Lane
Unitarian Church to provide a discussion group for mothers, the group is now its own organization, open
to all, and consisting of both men and women of a
wide range of ages and interests. Members are
parents of young children who have left the work
force to raise their children full or part-time,
empty-nesters, and grandparents alike. The lectures cover an array of topics including
current events, literature, art, education,
child-rearing and social issues. Past speakers have
included national and local news personalities,
authors, politicians, scientists and policymakers.
About the Lectures
The calendar averages nearly 40 lectures per year divided into two terms. The lecture program for each term is determined by a committee (open to all members) chaired by two or three members. WMG offers book signings for most of the authors who speak to the group. The Wednesday Morning Group meets Wednesday mornings at 9:30 am with a "Coffee Talk" lasting half an hour. Lectures begin at 10:00 am and end at 11:00 am sharp.
The Wednesday Morning Group (WMG) meets every Wednesday that Montgomery County Schools are in session. We do not meet during holiday breaks or the summer. We do not meet when school is canceled or delayed.
Guest fees are $5 per lecture, and
guests must register with the treasurer. Parents of
WMG members may attend lectures free of charge. All
guests my visit twice per year before being asked to
