Our Mission

The Wednesday Morning Group (WMG) is a weekly meeting of professional women, men and parents who gather in a spirit of mutual support, camaraderie, and intellectual curiosity to hear and interact with stiumlating guest speakers and each other.

Who We Are

The Wednesday Morning Group is a unique lecture series meeting weekly during the Montgomery County school year. Originally founded by members of a church in the Bethesda/Kensington, Maryland area 42 yearBook signing at WMGs ago, the group has evolved into an organization housed in the church but not affiliated with it. Most members are parents of young children who have left the workforce to raise their children full or part-time. The lectures cover an array of topics including current events, literature, art, education, child-rearing and social issues. Past speakers have included national and local news personalities, authors, politicians, scientists and policymakers.

Membership fees of $95 per year are used to publish a quarterly newsletter, subsidize on-site cooperative childcare, buy office supplies, and make a sizable donation to the church for use of the space. Neither the speakers nor the board members receive financial compensation. Membership capacity in WMG is based on the availability of space in the babysitting co-op. Membership is open to anyone regardless of age, race or gender.

About the Lectures

The calendar averages about 32 lectures per year divided into two terms. The lecture program for each term is determined by a committee (open to all members) chaired by two or three members. WMG maintains a relationship with the Politics and Prose bookstore, which offers books for sale and book signings when an author lectures. The group meets Wednesday mornings at 9:30 am with a "Coffee Talk" lasting half an hour. Lectures begin at 10:00 am and end at 11:00 am sharp.

The Wednesday Morning Group (WMG) meets every Wednesday that Montgomery County Schools are in session. We do not meet during holiday breaks or the summer. We do not meet when school is canceled or delayed.

Guests

Prospective members can visit WMG as a guest for a $5 fee. Visiting children can attend the co-op for an additional $5 per child. Space for visiting children in the childcare co-op varies each term. Please contact the Wednesday Morning Group co-op with the number and ages of your child(ren) if you plan to visit to ensure availability of space.

Our Location

The Wednesday Morning Group meets weekly at the Cedar Lane Church Unitarian Universalist Church. Although we are not affiliated with the Church, we are grateful for the privilege of using the Church's space for numerous years.
